The SKYLINE 2000GT-R (KPGC110) is named "Phoenix" after the immortal bird of the same name from mythology. It is popularly rumoured that a phoenix combusts into a blaze of fire before it dies and is reborn from the ashes of its predecessor. The car's in-game debut description describes the car as it running with a burning spirit, just like a phoenix. The car's deep red colour is a reference to one of the many depictions of the phoenix, with the red being from an art piece made by Friedrich Justin Bertuch in 1806
